Child Poverty Matters

Kia Ora and welcome to my blog about CHILD POVERTY

Personally, when I hear the word poverty I straight away think about the children and their families I see when watching TV (World Vision and CCF).  I notice that these families have no food, water, medicines, education and their homes are tiny shacks.  This is what I have always assumed poverty to be, but am I being too naive? Apparently so, as just recently poverty has made headlines here in New Zealand, who would of thought? And not only is it a current issue; it has been an on-going problem for quite some time.
Given my lack of knowledge around this area I would like to take a further look into child poverty (especially here in New Zealand) and equip myself with a better understanding about and around it.  First of all I would like to find out what child poverty actually is? How are children and families considered to be living in poverty in New Zealand? And how is it affecting their lives?
I can imagine that poverty may not be top of your discussion topics amongst your friends and to be honest you may not have even seen it yet, but it does exist and it is a very real issue here in Aotearoa (New Zealand) and around the world.
